Trouble Shooting

The Standby Saver does not work.
Please see our Product Details page and refer to the instructions for your Standby Saver unit.

The Standby Saver does not switch power to the peripherals.
Check Standby Saver is switched on. Then check that the fuse in the Standby Saver plug has not blown. Lastly check that the appliance fuse has not blown. Ensure that the Infra red lead or USB lead is firmly plugged in. Ensure that the Infra red version of Standby Saver has learned your existing Infra red remote control signal (refer to the downloadable instructions on the Product Details page). Ensure that the cable of the USB version is plugged into your PC.

The Standby Saver does not switch the peripherals off.
If your device is plugged into one of the switched sockets, ensure the switch is in the standby position.

The LED on my monitor does not switch off immediately.
There is a delay of approximately 10 seconds before Standby Saver switches off all power. This is to allow certain devices necessary time to enter their standby state. An audible ‘click’ will be heard from Standby Saver when it switches off power and the LED on your monitor may then switch off, but can continue to glow for several seconds until all power drains form the monitor. This is normal.

I have bought a Standby Saver for use with my computer set-up and there is no USB lead with it.
You have bought the version for use with Infra red products controlled by Infra red remote controls. Try using it on your TV, VCR or DVD. Alternatively, return to your supplier to exchange your Standby Saver for the USB version.

The Standby Saver does not work with my laptop.
Standby Saver will work with a laptop as well as with a desktop. Situations where laptops are used as purely portable devices would not benefit from the use of a Standby Saver. However situations where laptops are used as desktop replacements will definitely benefit from the use of Standby Saver. Another common use for Standby Saver is to work with a laptop and a docking station, where Standby Saver will switch off power to the docking station when not required.

If you have purchased an IR version and when first switched on the green LED is illuminated, follow the 8 point guide below.

1.       Unplug all appliances and IR sensor from the unit, plug the unit into a switched socket
2.       DO NOT switch the unit on yet
3.       Depress the mode button with your non metallic pointer, and, whilst keeping the mode button depressed, switch power ON to the unit keeping the mode button pressed in at all times
4.       The green LED will illuminate, however, after 5 to 10 seconds  the light should go out
5.       Once the light has gone out stop pressing the button
6.       Switch off the unit and wait 10 secs
7.       Switch the unit back on. WAIT another 10 seconds then depress the mode button, the RED LED should illuminate within 5 to 10 secs.
8.       Stop pressing the button and switch the unit off

Your Standby Saver should now be ready to set up and use as per the instructions.

N.B. If you ever switch the power off to your unit ALWAYS wait 10 secs after switching it back on before depressing the mode button.

My device is still not working.
